Toyota Prius
The Toyota Prius has gotten
so popular that it is now about the ninth most popular car in the country.

The Touring Edition is an addition to the
line. A little sportier wheel and tire combo is the main change. (all images courtesy Toyota)
The Toyota Prius is significantly lower
polluting than the average new car. It even meets California's tough PZEV
(partial zero emissions vehicle). Very few cars available for sale outside
of California (and a few other states with strict emissions standards) meet
that PZEV rating.

The display can show all
sorts of information, including gas mileage. This screen shows the flow of
power. When accelerating from a stop, the display may show mainly the
electric motor being used. At highway speeds, the display may show the
gasoline engine in use.

Under the hood are the
electronic controls for the Hybrid Synergy Drive. There is very little
maintenance of this that the owner needs to worry about.

The controls are pretty
similar to other cars. The speedometer is right under the windshield so the
driver can keep her eyes on the road.

With the rear seats
folded down, there is a surprising amount of space for storage.

The Prius has one of the
lowest coefficients of drag (Cd) of any car made. This helps get very good
mileage at highway speeds.
