Porsche is interested in the
possibility of developing a hybrid vehicle. Reportedly, Porsche is looking into
working with Toyota. Toyota has previously licensed it's hybrid technology to
Nissan and Ford.
Peter Schwarzenbauer, CEO
of Porsche Cars North America said "We are seriously looking at this technology,
at least for the North American market."
The most likely candidate for a
hybrid power train would be the Cayenne. Due to size issues, it would be
relatively easy to use a hybrid design in the Cayenne, but much more of a
challenge to use in the Porsche sports cars. Toyota has developed a surprisingly
powerful 270 HP hybrid , to be used in the Highlander. This would seem like a
suitable engine for the Cayenne.
