If you haven't been to Old Town in Alexandria, Va, you really should go. There's historic homes and buildings from George Washington's time, just a block or two from eclectic shops on the main road, King Street. You could easily spend two to three hours exploring. There's lots of restaurants on King Street if you get hungry. There are shuttle buses to the King Street Metro subway station.
