Dodge has introduced a hybrid version of it's Ram pickup, named
the "Dodge RAM Diesel HEV" . This will compete with the
Chevy Silverado and
GMC Sierra hybrid pickups. The Dodge is expected to have about
15 percent increased fuel efficiency and reduced emissions
compared to equivalent Ram trucks.

The truck combines a 325hp/600 lb-ft Cummins turbo diesel engine
with the hybrid electric system.
The vehicle can used as a stationary electrical generator.
Electrical generators are essential to contractors, but free
standing generators tend to be noisy, need refueling in a separate
tank, and generate a lot of pollution. Small gasoline engines are
not regulated the way cars and trucks are for emissions.
Given recent major power outages around the country, a portable,
quiet generator of this capacity looks very appealing. The Dodge
could easily supply power to a typical home in a power outage. The
truck's engine can even be turned off and power is drawn from the
hybrid systems' batteries.

A switch on the dash lets the
operator turn on the generator when the truck is stationary.

Chrysler says the generator can provide enough electricity to
power four average households.
