The
Everex StepNote NC1501 is claimed to be most energy efficient
notebook PC in the world. It uses only 12 watts of peak power. It
meets the EPA's Energy Star standard. According to the Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory website, a typical desktop PC and
monitor use about 120 watts of power. Not only are you reducing your
impact on the environment with an efficient notebook PC, the money
savings can be significant.

How'd
they do it? Instead of using an Intel or AMD microprocessor, the
Everex uses the super efficient VIA®
C7 M processor. Most of the
time , the C7-M is so efficient it cruises along using only 1 watt!

The
downside? This won't be as powerful as a $1500 laptop. But most
people don't need that, and the Everex sells for about 500 bucks.
Also, the battery life is a little less than you might be expecting,
perhaps about 3 hours, depending on how you're using the computer.
However, a lower capacity battery means a lighter computer, so for
some people, that's a plus.
Wal-Mart has been selling Everex PCs, both in their stores and
online. You can check
everex.com for other retailers.
Everex
sells extra batteries, power cords, and memory through their
website. If you can't find this exact model, it's probably been
replaced with something similar. Models change fast in the world of
computers. Look for models with NC15XX and check for the VIA
processor.
