The Camry Hybrid represents a step up from the Prius. It's roomier, has more power and is not quite as frugal. The Camry Hybrid has been well received by the experts. It's considered a hybrid without any sacrifices. You get all the great qualities of a regular Camry, plus lower emissions and better gas mileage. It's even peppier than the regular four cylinder Camry.

Camry Hybrid owners report an average of about 37 MPG on greenhybrid.com. This is really remarkable for a car that weighs about 3600 pounds. By comparison, Prius drivers are getting about 48 MPG and Honda Civic Hybrid drivers are getting about 46 MPG.

The Camry Hybrid offers significantly better acceleration for highway merging than a Prius Most people should feel the Prius has adequate acceleration, but a few may find it slightly lacking. The Camry Hybrid generally turns in times from 0 to 60 miles per hour of about 8.5 seconds in road tests, which is very good.

Please look for the base model, which should have no leather in it, even on the steering wheel. More expensive packages have some leather; please avoid these packages.
