best place to save money: Goodwill stores have surprisingly good selection and quality. It's sometimes amazing how much you can save. The stores may surprise you at how clean and modern they are.

runner up: Dollar Tree stores are clean and have a huge selection.

best store for nutritional supplements: Vitamin Shoppe has a huge selection and great prices. Definitely get their frequent buyer card, and you are likely to get a coupon for $10-25 bucks each spring.

best stereo store, now that Myer Emco is gone: Graffiti, if you're on a budget; or, if you want something really nice, IQ AV in Fairfax or Gramophone in Columbia.

best shop for car repairs: ABS Unlimited in Fairfax is very ethical and does the job right.

best place for hearing aids: It's scary how many places want to rip off our seniors on hearing aids. Fairfax Hearing Center is highly recommended. Be sure to check your county or city to see if they have a discount program for hearing aids like the ProAct Prescription Discount Card offered in Fairfax County. You might be able to save up to 65%.

best for gutter or roof repairs or replacement: St Joseph's Roof

best LED light bulb: Now's the time to start using these, particularly in warm weather. They make almost no heat, so they bring down your electric bill in the summer. They last a really long time, don't contain mercury, and are very rugged compared to glass bulbs. This one from Amazon is a good value. Home Depot also sells bulbs for about $10.

best place to buy a used computer:

 Cedar PC has a huge selection and good prices. Be sure to check the inventory on their website, as they don't display all the computers they have in stock.

Being tied to one specific company, like Microsoft or Apple, is not wise.
