When you shop online, up to 7.5% of the value of your purchase could be going to benefit your favorite rescue group. Look for them at the adoptashelter.com list. Major retailers like amazon.com, target.com and walmart.com participate in the program. It's easy for a group not listed in the program to be added.

If you aren't sure you can tell if a kitty is a match for you at an adoption fair, King Street Cats has a great alternative; a house for cats. Be sure to check their hours on their web site. The cats are ususally available to meet on weekends.
