New GM Sierra Hybrid - A Big

Improvement Over Other Pickups

One of the most important hybrid introductions is coming for the 2009 model year from GMC. It's a hybrid version of their Sierra pickup truck. It will use their new "two mode" hybrid system. GMC says it achieves a 40-percent greater city fuel economy and a 25-percent improvement in overall fuel economy.

GMC has been really thorough in using lots of engineering tricks to improve fuel economy. These include:

a 6.0 liter V8 with variable valve timing

all-electric driving up to 30 mph

regenerative braking

Active Fuel Management

electrically variable transmission (this is good for people who tow trailers, etc.)

42-volt power steering

 

 

The result is a truck with a 26-gallon fuel tank, and a cruising range of more than 500 miles

Two wheel drive and 4 wheel drive will be available.

If you need a pickup truck for your work, this one is worth waiting for.

Look for the Sierra Hybrid in the fourth quarter of 2008.
