The 2009
Toyota Corolla is a good choice for someone who wants a
fuel efficient car, but doesn't want or can't afford, a
hybrid. With automatic transmission, it's EPA rated
27 city /35 highway. That's for the models with the
1.8 liter engine. This rating is actually better than
the smaller Honda Fit. And the Corolla has been in
refinement for over 40 years.

If you
tend to get lost easily you'll appreciate the optional
DVD based navigation system.

Double
overhead cams and variable valve timing used to be just
in exotic cars, but this engineering is used in the
Corolla. The result is good mileage with a fun to drive
132 HP engine.
If you
ever drive in the snow, Toyota's traction control (TRAC)
is a nice option to get. Combined with front wheel
drive, it does pretty well in the snow.
